  SO WHAT IF
I LOVED YOU
LIKE A FOOL
AND LOST

IS IT NOT ENOUGH
THAT I BURNT MYSELF
IN ECSTATIC AGONIES OF
WAITING AND YEARNING
THAT YOU MUST NOW INSIST
THAT I HATE YOU
AND IN ITS INFERNAL VENOMS
INCINERATE AGAIN
WHAT IS LEFT OF MY BODY AND MIND

HAVING LOST ALL
I CANNOT LOSE MORE
BUT ONLY WIN
TO AVENGE MY FALLEN PRIDE
BY HURTING YOU
BY SMOTHERING YOU
BY ONLY LOVING YOU

SO WHAT IF I LOVED YOU
AND YOU DID NOT ME
IF IT BE TRUE
THAT THE MENTION OF NAME
OR PRESENCE
MAKES YOUR HEART SEARCH FOR A MISSED BEAT
BY POUNDING FASTER
AND EYES WANDER VACANTLY
OVER CHEEKS GROWING REDDER
IN FUTILE EFFORT AT SPEECH BEYOND HELP
BRIEFLY VAINLY
BUT DISCONCERTINGLY SURELY

THEN ANSWER;
WHO IS THE FOOL
AND WHO THE WINNER
