  AS I SAT
UNOBSERVED
AT AN AIRPORT
AND WATCHED
PEOPLE
YOUNG, OLD, SICK, GAY
BORED, EXPECTANT, TIRED
ANXIOUS, JOVIAL
TALK, WALK, WATCH, SMOKE
PRY, MEDDLE, IGNORE
LAUGH, CRY, GRUMBLE, FRET;
I ALSO THOUGHT OF A RAILWAY TERMINAL
OR A BUS, OR TRAIN,
OR EVEN HOUSES, THEATRES, STREETS;
AND IMAGINED THEM
IN THEIR VARIOUS HABITATS
AND HABITS PLYING THEIR
DAY'S BUSINESS, OR NIGHT'S
JOYFULLY, INDIFFERENTLY, OR RELUCTANTLY
AS IF DRAWN BY AN INVISIBLE FORCE
OF AN UNKNOWN VORTEX
THOUGHTFULLY, OR WITHOUT
TO AN AIMLESS AIM

I WONDERED:
AND KNOWING MYSELF AS ONE OF THEM
TRIED TO IMAGINE MYSELF
BEING WATCHED
TALKING
WALKING, FRETTING
AND DOING OR NOT DOING
ALL THAT THEY DID
OR DID NOT
AND SAW MYSELF
PULLED, PUSHED, DRAWN
BY THE SAME UNKNOWN
FORCE OR VACUUM OR WHATEVER
INVISIBLE
BUT INEXORABLY
AND SLOWLY, UNHURRIEDLY
LOOKING AT
THEIR SHEER MASS AND MOMENTUM
I REALISED THAT
THE FORCE, THE VACUUM
THAT PUSHED OR SUCKED
WAS NONE OTHER
THAN THE ONE CREATED
BY THEMSELVES
UNKNOWINGLY, UNREALISINGLY;

THE MASSIVE ACT OF THEIR LIVING
AND ONE INCUMBENT ACTIVITY LEADING TO ANOTHER
ITSELF BECAME A POWER
WHICH LIKE AN ATOMIC CHAIN REACTION
ONLY GREW BY ITSELF CEASELESSLY
INTO A TURBULENCE
WHICH SPURRED THEM ONTO MORE

AND IN CONFUSION TO FALLACIOUSLY ATTRIBUTE
THIS HYSTERIA, THIS FRENZY
TO SUPERNATURAL DESIGNS
AND CONSIDER BY IT JUSTIFIED
THE VAGARIES OF HIS NONEXISTENT
EXISTENTIAL AIMS
